| Breakfast from Beatrix
| I bought my breakfast pastry from Beatrix.
| It had a line! Promising...
| A sample of its wares.
| My chocolate croissant. (Yes, apparently some bakeries make both
chocolate croissants and pains au chocolat.)
| My chocolate croissant had a scary amount of butter inside. I guess
this tells me that the chocolate croissant is made from the croissant
beurre, not the croissant nature. (Beatrix had both for sale.)

| Les Halles
| Fountaine des Innocents in Les Halles.
| The Stravinsky fountain has modern, funky sculptures (not all pictured).
Too bad it didn't have water and wasn't playing music. Apparently each
sculpture represents a composition. A Game clue?
| The grand, gothic Saint Merry church, adjacent to the fountain.
| Le Marais
| A sample mansion in Le Marais.
| | Square Georges Cain has flowers in bloom and a nude statue. It conveys
a sense of calm.
| A panoramic movie of the Hotel de Lamoignon, a more typical mansion, now
host to the historical library. Note the Corinthian columns and animals
heads above them.
| The courtyard of the Hotel Carnavalet, yet another sixteenth-century
mansion that was revised, as was typical, a century or two later. The
building now housed the major Paris history museum.
| The front of the mansion/museum.
| Looking down Rue de Sevigne toward Saint Paul Saint Louis church.
| I can't help taking pictures of buildings with railings and reliefs like
this.

| A panoramic video of Place des Vosges, taken from one corner. Notice
the four fountains and perfect symmetry.
| In case the panorama didn't come out, a picture looking across the
square at one fountain and at the townhouses beyond.
| Surrounding each side of the square is the same set
of brick and stone buildings, continuing the symmetry of the square
itself.
These were in the background of the previous picture.
They have dormer windows at the top and arcade at the bottom.
| A quick panoramic video showing the houses visible above the park's
perimeter trees.
There is playground equipment under the trees by the edge of the square.
Nearby, we saw a Sunday school at play.
We also saw a line of bicyclists pass along the square. How's this
setting for a pleasant Sunday ride?
Rue de Francs Bourgoeis near Place des Vosges has door after door
boutiques.
| Colonne de Juillet stands in the center of Place de la Bastille, the
site where the Bastille stood.
| The modern Opera National de Paris Bastille has a design meant to
contrast with the opulent opera building downtown.
| Market Boulevard Richard-Lenoir
| Approaching the market on Boulevard Richard-Lenoir.
| A sample row in the market, with Di Yin buying vegetables.
| There were a couple of prepared food stands, including this one with
huge pans of food.
| Free-range eggs!
| One of the many fishmongers.
