A rainbow in our wake.
Balestrand was surrounded by rocky peaks.
A closer look at the mountains and their streams.

Remember my earlier remark about how skinny some of Norway's pines are?
Look at the tall ones with leafless trunks in this picture.
A waterfall.
Also, I wonder why that patch no longer has trees.
Vik, perhaps the prettiest town where the ferry stopped. Perhaps
excellent? Note this picture is very high resolution.
Vik, from a slightly different angle, just to make sure I got the shot.

More of those trees.
The earlier waterfall come again.
How do people get to their houses surrounded by these barren
outcroppings of rock?
Sorry, this picture was taken when I was sitting indoors.
A 120-degree panoramic movie of us at speed.

As we left the fjord, the land became flatter and more barren.
A movie of us passing islands. Listen to that wind resistance!
A statue along the fjord.
A bridge. Look how narrow the sound gets.

Still narrow.

Insanely narrow.

Arrival in Bergen
Approaching Bergen. (Don't worry, it starts looking better.)
Bergen's outer harbor.
One corner of Bergenhus fortress/castle. We'd walk its ground the
following evening.
The more historic side of the inner harbor. Notice the two church
steeples and the building high on the hill. That's the funicular
station from which we hiked down two days later.

Our hotel's room television was on when we arrived, welcoming me.

Looking out the window of our hotel room, we could see the edge of
Bergen's castle, as well as water.

The hotel's elevator lacked a door, which was cool because we could watch each level pass. (Each floor had a mostly-glass door to the elevator.) (It's not as if someone could fall in the elevator shaft.) These manually-operated doors kept confusing us--we kept forgetting we had to open the door to elevator ourselves. I'm very used to elevator doors opening automatically.
