| More Jing'an Temple District
| Near the Jing'an Temple is an enormous Haagen-Dazs.
| A truly weird statue in front of the former Palace of Sino-Soviet
Friendship. I think it looks like a stack of ghostly horses.
| The plaque accompanying and attempting to explain the statue.
| Flowers along West Nanjing Road.
| Another lilong, likely for a less wealthy demographic than the ones I
photographed earlier in the day.
| The former Ohel Rachel Synagogue is barely visible through the ivy.
| Jade Buddha Temple
| The Jade Buddha Temple is another big temple complex.
| The main courtyard.
| A line of Chinese lanterns.
| Buddhas in the Great Treasure Hall. Those are intricately carved
thrones.
| Ditto. (I think.)
| The Hall of Heavenly Kings, perhaps.
Actually, I didn't pay the extra fee to see the temple's namesake Jade
Buddha (partially because photography was prohibited of it).
| The temple is at left; opposite the temple is a wall with some bas
relief sculptures.
| A peacock bas relief. Excellent.
| A bas relief of a dragon.
| Bas reliefs of elephants.

| 50 Moganshan Road Art Centre
The Outstanding Art
gallery included paintings by Qiu
Shengxian of proper yet lively paintings of Buddha. One was
Buddha's face composed of many, smaller Buddha faces. Another was the
face of Buddha composed of many, smaller naked female bodies!
In the DongLi Gallery, I saw Thomas Tan H.C.'s (I think--my handwriting
is hard to read) remarkable A Glance in Spring, a beautiful
impressionist piece of a foggy canal town.
