Brunch at .9 (Richmond)
We returned to #9
Restaurant for brunch. We'd previously went there two evenings
earlier.
Rice noodles with beef, bean sprouts, and chilies: innocuous, pleasing
comfort food.

Elsewhere in Richmond
A movie of the fountain in, I believe, Aberdeen Centre.

No, I don't know why they thought Elvis is good music for a mall.

Ferry to Vancouver Island
A panoramic movie taken soon after we left the dock on the ferry from
the mainland to Vancouver Island.
Di Yin.
Me. Yup, it's windy.
Part of our picnic lunch: pickled garlic stems.
We bought these earlier at a Korean supermarket.

Dried persimmons.

Another panoramic movie, taken from the last half of the trip when we
were passing between islands. Haro Strait.
A ferry identical to ours, making the return trip.
Dried persimmons.
For our picnic, we also had fresh lychee (from Pike Place Market), leftovers from breakfast at #9 Restaurant, and salmon jerky (from Granville Island).

One of the many nearly uninhabited islands we passed en route to
Vancouver Island.
A cute little lighthouse, taken using my new camera's 10x zoom.
Simply for contrast, the same picture using only a 5x zoom.
A private island, perhaps?

University of Victoria
A panoramic movie of the University of Victoria's central lawn, where I
laid and relaxed for a bit. Yes, those are my feet that are
visible near the beginning of the video.
A washed-out image of a fountain at UVic.

Sooke
A panoramic movie taken from a windy peninsular park in Sooke, a town on
Vancouver Island about an hour west of Victoria.
Di Yin looks happy.
Tall mountains in the distance.
I think these are the Olympic/Coastal Range.
A zoomed in picture of one mountain's snow-capped peak.

Sooke Harbour House and Vicinity
The entrance to Sooke
Harbour House, a hyper-local, sustainable restaurant I heard about
from a friend and from Anthony Bourdain's travel show No
Reservations.
One of Sooke Harbour House's gardens, including its variety of flowers
and its funky sculptures.
One of Sooke's dining rooms--not the one we ate in--had many crabs on
the wall. :) Quirky fun.
The view from our table, with another nice, small garden in the
foreground and, closer still, our table's candle, bouquet, and water
bottle. If you look closely, you can see fennel and rosemary. I
wonder if the herbs used in our meal were from this garden.

Another photo of the view from our window. It appears the mountains are
floating.
A panoramic movie of the view from our seat and the dining room we were
in. The dining room appears larger than it is due to a very clean
mirror. I only realized the mirror's existence / the dining room's
actual size halfway through the meal, quite a bit after I recorded this
video.
Di Yin and I. An astute observer who's also seen Bourdain's
episode on this place will realize we sat at the same table as he.
Us posed around a different chair.
