May 19th 2007: Himalayan Fair (Berkeley) and A Stroll Through North BerkeleyI took two high-resolution panoramic movies of the festival at separate times. I believe they do a better job of capturing the feel of the festival and its setting than any set of pictures would. Watch them enlarged to full screen and pause often to examine aspects of the scene in more detail. One panorama has two parts (1,2) because I didn't manage to rotate a full 360 degrees before my camera ran out of memory buffer. This panorama displays a good selection of the variety of items for sale. The other panorama, in contrast, I'd watch more with an eye toward the atmosphere of the festival: the sun, the trees, the grass, the stage (the dark area by the large grassy space with many seated people), and especially the colored cloth squares hung between many of the trees in the park. I also took a very low resolution movie of Chaksam Pa, one musician I enjoyed during the festival. All the festival's music was relatively similar in style. The final movie is of workers making momos. You can see them rolling the dough and stuffing the momos. This was a popular booth for food. It may look like there were a lot of workers, but all were needed to keep up with demand. The latter section of pictures is from the walk from the fair to the North Berkeley BART station. Residents of this part of town do a lovely job maintaining gardens; hence, I took some pictures. If you can identify any of the photographed flowers, please tell me.There are movies associated with this collection.
